A spatial image compression algorithm based on run length encoding

چکیده

Image compression is vital for many areas such as communication and storage of data that rapidly growing nowadays. In this paper, a spatial lossy algorithm gray scale images presented. It exploits the inter-pixel psycho-visual redundancies in images. The proposed technique finds paths connected pixels fluctuate value within some small threshold. path calculated by looking at 4-neighbors pixel then choosing best one based on two conditions; first selected must not be included another second difference between specified threshold value. A starts with given consists locations subsequently pixels. Run-length encoding scheme applied to harvest redundancy. After applying several test images, promising quality vs. ratio results have been achieved.
